在2005年，摇滚乐队邦乔维在他们的第九张录音室专辑中发行了一首名叫“Welcome to Wherever You Are.” 的歌。尽管邦乔维很有信心地告诉拉里·金（美国著名主持人），说这首歌无疑会成为一首流行金曲——它表达着关于个性与共性的理念诉求。不过这首歌可从来没有真的红过。

而不久前，通过乔恩·邦乔维心灵基金，这位乐队的主唱体现了这首歌的精神：他开了一家餐馆，名叫心灵厨房（Soul Kitchen），这可不是家普通的名人餐馆啊。

心灵厨房，这家非营利性的餐馆坐落在新泽西州雷德班克市一间以前是做汽车零件的店中。在这家餐馆中，用餐者可以随意支付一个自己觉得合适的价钱，餐馆面对的顾客群体是饥饿者和整个社会。餐馆中种植着香草和蔬菜，亚麻布铺在桌面上。餐厅对用餐者有一条规定：“请与你可能不认识的人坐在一起。” 这家餐馆的目标就是为人们提供有营养的食物和促进人们的交流，餐馆的网站上写道：“友谊就是特别菜。”就像帕尼罗面包连锁餐厅（美国全国面包和餐厅连锁店）之前的咖啡计划那样，乔恩这家餐馆的菜单上也是没有标价的。那些不能付餐费的人，可以通过在餐厅做义工或做其他社会义工来还清餐费。

虽然心灵厨房只是营业了几个月，但它已经与当地的“无家可归者联系计划”和地区高中的烹饪艺术训练课程建立了联系。餐馆的赞助基金自从2006年以来，就一直积极地参加各种公益计划去帮助大西洋中部地区及其他地方的贫困者和无家可归者。

为什么这种故事不放在名人新闻的头条呢？因为最近非营利与志愿部门季刊（Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly）就惠特尼·休斯顿和Lady Gaga的行为报道，现在很多名人都利用自己的社会地位去做更多的善事。Kathi Jaworski如是说。
